Tensions are escalating between Nigerians and South Africans as both countries face a surge in fake ride-hailing operations amid the ongoing rivalry between Bolt and Uber.

The proliferation of fraudulent drivers and fake ride-hailing services has led to numerous clashes and concerns among users in both nations.

Bolt reacts

Bolt addressed the situation on X, stating, “Bolt is aware of the recent fake ride requests between individuals in Nigeria and South Africa. We’ve swiftly implemented measures to resolve the issue and have restricted inter-country ride requests.”

“Those responsible have been blocked from the Bolt app. We prioritise the safety and integrity of our platform and are committed to supporting our driver-partners,” the transport company stated.

Authorities in Nigeria and South Africa are now under pressure to address these fraudulent activities and restore confidence in the ride-hailing industry.
