Nigeria’s Golden Girl: Tobi Amusan named flag-bearer for Paris 2024 Olympics
The Nigeria Olympics Committee (NOC), in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Sport, has appointed Tobi Amusan as Nigeria’s flag-bearer for the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The ceremony is scheduled to take place on the River Seine on Friday.
Amusan, who holds the world record in the women’s 100m hurdles, is among Nigeria’s top medal prospects for the upcoming Games. Earlier this year, she recorded a world-leading time of 12.40 seconds, solidifying her status as a leading contender.

In addition to Amusan’s role, Anuoluwapo Opeyori of the badminton team has been named as the general captain of Team Nigeria’s contingent for the Paris Games. Opeyori, a seasoned player who has represented Nigeria since 2017 and won the African Championships and African Games in 2019, will provide leadership and guidance to the team.
Tony Nezianya, press attaché to Team Nigeria, emphasized that the appointments reflect the high expectations the country has for its athletes and their potential to lead Nigeria to success in Paris.
