NiMet predicts Three Days Thunderstorms, Dust Haze across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has released a fresh weather forecast, predicting thunderstorms and dusty conditions across different parts of the country from Sunday through Tuesday.
According to the weather outlook made public in Abuja, the agency projected moderate dust haze over northern states including Katsina, Sokoto, Zamfara, Borno, Kano, Yobe, and Jigawa during the forecast period.
It also mentioned the likelihood of isolated thunderstorms occurring in parts of Adamawa and Taraba States within the same period.
In its projection for the North-central region, NiMet anticipated partly cloudy skies in the morning, followed by isolated thunderstorms later in the afternoon and evening across areas such as the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Kogi, Nasarawa, and Benue States.
For southern Nigeria, the agency forecasted morning thunderstorms in parts of Lagos, Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom States, with additional thunderstorms expected in several areas as the day progresses.
By Monday, clear sunny weather is expected to dominate most of the northern states, although thunderstorms may appear in parts of Taraba and Adamawa States in the morning. Later in the day, NiMet projected thunderstorms for areas including Kaduna, Bauchi, and Gombe States.
The North-central states are also expected to experience morning thunderstorms in Plateau, Nasarawa, and Benue, with more stormy weather anticipated in the afternoon and evening hours.
In the South, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Edo States are predicted to witness thunderstorms in the morning, with further rainfall likely later in the day.
On Tuesday, the agency forecasted mainly sunny skies and patches of cloud cover for the North, accompanied by possible morning thunderstorms in Adamawa and Taraba. More thunderstorms are expected later in the day in Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba.
For North-central Nigeria, partly cloudy conditions are expected in the morning, giving way to thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening over parts of the FCT, Kogi, Kwara, Benue, and Niger States.
Southern states will likely see morning thunderstorms in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Bayelsa, with further storms predicted as the day advances.
NiMet advised residents to take necessary safety precautions as thunderstorms may be accompanied by strong winds, warning northern dwellers to be cautious of suspended dust particles in the atmosphere.
The agency also urged airline operators to always obtain updated weather reports for airports to support safe flight operations and encouraged the public to stay informed by following NiMet’s regular forecasts.
