NNPP: Lawmaker rejects suspension, says it lacks merit

Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, the NNPP lawmaker representing Rano, Kibiya, and Bunkure Federal Constituencies, has dismissed his suspension by the faction led by Hashimu Dungurawa, describing it as baseless and without legitimacy.

Reacting to the suspension on Monday, Rurum maintained that he and his colleagues belong to the rightful faction of the NNPP, which uses the fruit and basket logo. He clarified that they never aligned with the group led by Dungurawa and Governor Abba Yusuf, who changed the party’s logo to a book and pen.

“The world knows that since they changed the party’s logo, we have not been with them. We are in the NNPP with the fruit and basket logo, while they are with the book logo. We also have a court judgment that dismissed their claims,” Rurum stated.

He further accused the rival faction of disregarding the court’s ruling, saying, “What they did is a contempt of court. They are not legitimate party leaders. After our victory, they took us to an Abia High Court, and even this week, we were in court again. They are deceiving Nigerians. Everybody in this country knows we are on two different lanes. They have only suspended themselves because we are not with them.”

Earlier, the Dungurawa-led faction had announced the suspension of Senator Kawu Sumaila (Kano South Senatorial District), Kabiru Alhassan Rurum (Rano/Kibiya Federal Constituency), Ali Madakin Gini (Dala Federal Constituency), and Sani Abdullahi Rogo (Rogo/Karaye Federal Constituency) over alleged anti-party activities.

This latest development has deepened the division within the NNPP in Kano State.
