The Nollywood community has been plunged into fresh mourning following the death of Ozor Luke Odonwodo, father of late actor John Paul Odonwodo, popularly known as Junior Pope.

The bereavement comes barely a month after the actor’s own untimely passing in a boat accident.

Confirming the sad news, Junior Pope’s widow, Jennifer Odonwodo, made an emotional announcement via Instagram on Wednesday. She revealed that her father-in-law, who was in his 80s, died last month in Enugu.

Jennifer paid tribute to the late patriarch, describing him as a devoted family man who lived an honourable life and was able to reap the rewards of his hard work in his later years. She prayed for strength for the family to bear the heavy loss of both father and son in such a short span.

“Barely one month ago, I was with you in Enugu. Some days later, Reme (my mother-in-law) called and told me her husband had gone to meet my husband,” she wrote.

Jennifer recounted fond memories of Ozor Luke’s genuine love and kindness towards her, expressing gratitude for the time they shared before his passing. She concluded with a touching farewell, invoking biblical promises of resurrection and eternal rest.

The news triggered a wave of grief among Nollywood stars, with actress Destiny Etiko commenting, “Chai. Take heart my woman.” Nzube Onyia added, “The Lord is your strength, Jay dear,” while Sonia Ogene wrote, “It is well, my condolences.” Actor Benson Okonkwo also expressed his sympathy, urging Jennifer to “stay strong.”

Junior Pope tragically lost his life on April 10, 2024, in a boat accident on the River Niger in Asaba, Delta State, while heading to a movie location. The accident also claimed the lives of four crew members.

The loss of both father and son within weeks has left the Odonwodo family and the Nollywood industry in deep sorrow.
