Oriental derby: NPFL awards Rangers maximum points, fines Enyimba
Rangers has been handed maximum three points and three goals by the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) for the abandoned oriental derby against Enyimba.
Enyimba stepped out of the game during stoppage time.because of a penalty given to the hosts.
The Aba giants fans also invaded the pitch afterwards.
The NPFL also fined Enyimba N10m for the unruly behaviour of their players, officials and supporters during the game.
The league body has also fined Rangers N5m for various offences, including non provision of adequate security, encroachment on the pitch by fans and other unauthorized persons, as well as sales of tickets to spectators exceeding the stadium capacity.
Both clubs have 48 hours to appeal the decision.
With this development, Rangers now remain on course to win the 2023/24 season NPFL title.
The Flying Antelopes top the standings with 64 points from 35 games.
