Oshoala’s goal fires Bay FC to victory against Seattle Reign
Asisat Oshoala continues to make her mark in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) as she netted her fifth away goal for Bay FC in a 1-0 win over Seattle Reign FC on Sunday, as reported by News360 Nigeria.
The Nigerian striker confidently converted a penalty in the 27th minute, securing a crucial win for her team at Lumen Field.
Oshoala was awarded the penalty after being brought down following a perfectly timed through ball from Tess Boade.
Her successful spot-kick pushed Bay FC into the eighth and final playoff spot, with just four matches left in the regular season. Despite a late push from Seattle Reign FC, Bay FC held on to claim the vital three points.
It was Oshoala’s second penalty goal of the campaign and her team-leading sixth goal of the season. She has three goals in her last four games for Bay FC.
The 29-year-old former FC Barcelona striker has been prolific on the road and has scored in each of Bay FC’s last two road matches, netting three goals in her last four games for Bay FC, who registered their ninth win overall and fifth on the road the season.
The win left them with 28 points and in the eighth spot alongside Portland Thorns FC, also on 28 points, but Portland hold the edge for the seventh spot due to goal differential.
With the Chicago Red Stars on 29 points falling at home to the North Carolina Courage, Bay FC are now just one point off seventh place in the table.
Notably, they are three points clear of Racing Louisville FC with 25 points in ninth place and six points clear of San Diego Wave FC (22 points) in 10th place and Angel City FC (22 points) in 11th place
