Mudashiru Obasa, the ousted Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, convened a controversial plenary session on Thursday with only four lawmakers in attendance.

Despite the assembly having 40 members, the majority of legislators refused to participate in the session, even though they were present within the assembly complex. Reports indicate that security operatives forcefully opened the chamber doors to grant Obasa and his supporters entry.

Among those present at the session were Ayinde Akinsanya and Noheem Adams, who represent Mushin constituencies I and II, respectively.

Earlier in the day, Obasa arrived at the assembly complex with his security team, declaring himself the rightful Speaker. He insisted that his removal from office did not follow due process.

“I’ve never been removed. Impeachment or removal is democratic and constitutional, but in doing that, you must follow due process. I am not against that. If I do that, then I am not democratic,” he stated.

Obasa was removed from office on January 13 while he was out of the country, with Mojisola Meranda sworn in as his successor.
