No fewer than 27 out of 39 candidates have picked up nomination forms from the Electoral Commission for Ghana’s presidential elections scheduled for December 7, 2024.

The pool of candidates is a diverse mix of musicians, pastors, entrepreneurs, and politicians, including several independent candidates.

Among these independent candidates are notable figures such as George Twum-Barimah-Adu, a business executive with a political lineage, and Samuel Apea-Danquah, an entrepreneur who previously contested as an Independent Candidate in the 2020 parliamentary elections.

Other candidates include Richard Sumah, a marketing consultant, and Desmond Kwame Abrefah, a prophet and founder of Save the Nation Movement.

Dr. Agnes Ayisha, a musician and youth activist, and Dr. Nii Amu Darko, a Ghanaian doctor based in Australia, also stand among the presidential hopefuls.

The list is rounded out by military veteran Flt. Sgt. T.K. Amenyah, businessman Robert Roy Reindorf, and leaders of various political and social movements, such as Paul Perkoh of the National Liberation Movement and Seth Ntim Agyarko of the People’s Liberation Front.

The Electoral Commission has scheduled the nomination filing period from September 9 to 13, 2024. It remains to be seen how many of the 27 candidates will officially appear on the ballot for this highly anticipated election.
