The Under-23 Argentina football coach, Javier Mascherano has revealed why his team, Argentina suffered a defeat to France.

Mascherano admitted that the defeat hurts so much and suggested that his team’s loss to France was mainly due to their inability to score goals.

He acknowledged how devastating it is to lose a match when his players were playing well, but the ball just wouldn’t go into the net. Indeed, the Argentine Under-23 team had several chances to score but failed to convert them.

Jean-Philippe Mateta scored the only goal of the match as Thierry Henry’s team defeated Argentina 1-0 on Friday.

France will now face Egypt in the semi-final stage on Monday.

Speaking to the media after the game,

Mascherano said as quoted by Mundo Albiceleste: “The match was practically all us. The only thing we missed was a goal.

“Football has these things. Sometimes you do everything you can to win it and we did well not to lose it, but we came up empty-handed.

“It’s difficult to understand a game like today’s, where we had little or nothing to show for it and we had a few chances to tie it.

“It hurts a lot because we had the illusion that this team could go far.”
