Paris Paralympics 2024: Nigeria faces defeat in two Para-table tennis games

Team Nigeria’s para-table tennis players faced a challenging time at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris on Thursday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the duo of Kayode Alabi and Faith Obazuaye suffered a 1-3 defeat in the mixed doubles XD17 event, marking a difficult day in their competition.

They lost 6-11 11-7 6-11 6-11 to the pair of Joshua Stacey and Bly Twomey from Great Britain in their Round of 32 game.

In the men’s doubles competition, the Nigerian pair of Alabi and Victor Farinloye also struggled, losing 0-3 to China’s Peng Weinan and Huang Jiaxin in the MD14 event.

The Chinese team won with set scores of 11-9, 11-5, and 11-8 in their Round of 16 encounter.

Team Nigeria will now have to hope for honours from the singles events at the competition, following this early exit.
