Patrick Vieira appointed head coach of Serie A side Genoa
Former France and Arsenal star Patrick Vieira has been named the new head coach of Genoa, a Serie A club battling to avoid relegation.
The club made the announcement on Wednesday, stating: “Genoa CFC announces that Patrick Vieira has been entrusted with the technical management of the first team.”
Vieira, 48, takes over from Alberto Gilardino, who was dismissed on Tuesday following a poor run of results that left Genoa in 17th place on the Serie A table, just one point above the relegation zone.
The appointment marks a significant challenge for Vieira, whose previous managerial experience includes stints with Crystal Palace, OGC Nice, and New York City FC. Genoa will be hoping his leadership and tactical expertise can steer the team clear of danger in the highly competitive Italian top flight.
