Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has donated N50 million to Shanahan University, a newly established institution in Onitsha, during its official opening ceremony.

Obi highlighted the growing value of knowledge over oil, stating, “Knowledge is the currency of the future,” and commended the founder, Archbishop Valerian Okeke, for his visionary role in establishing the university.

Obi called on society to focus on preparing for the future through education, praising the church’s consistent efforts in setting up world-class educational institutions. Archbishop Okeke expressed his gratitude for Obi’s continuous support of missionary schools and announced that the university would provide free internet access to students until January 2025.

Professor Obi Oguejiofor, Vice Chancellor of Shanahan University, shared the institution’s goal of becoming one of Nigeria’s leading universities. He also revealed that the pioneer batch of over 200 students would enjoy tuition-free education for the current academic session, marking a significant step in the university’s commitment to promoting accessible higher education.
