Philip Shaibu remains impeached, can’t function – Gov Obaseki

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has reiterated that the embattled Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, remains impeached, despite recent comments attributed to Shaibu.

This was in response to a statement where Shaibu warned Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to be vigilant against attempts by political appointees to loot government properties.

In a statement released on Friday by Obaseki’s Special Adviser on Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie, the governor dismissed Shaibu’s remarks, describing them as “infantile ramblings.”

He emphasized that Shaibu remains impeached pending the court’s decision and, as such, lacks the authority to issue directives or warnings to any staff members of the Edo State Government.

Governor Obaseki urged Edo workers to disregard Shaibu’s comments, reaffirming that the deputy governor holds no power until a final court ruling is made.

It should be recalled that in July, the Federal High Court in Abuja nullified Shaibu’s impeachment as the Deputy Governor of Edo State.

However, the situation remains unresolved as legal proceedings continue.
