Malawi is in a state of shock as a military plane carrying Vice President Saulos Chilima and nine others goes missing.

The aircraft, which was scheduled for a regular landing, vanished from radar, prompting a frenzied search by aviation officials.

Despite exhaustive efforts, communication with the aircraft remains elusive, leaving the fate of the passengers hanging in the balance. President Lazarus Chakwera has swiftly mobilized both regional and national forces to initiate a comprehensive search and rescue mission to locate the missing aircraft.

The timing couldn’t be worse as Chakwera, who was set to embark on an official trip to the Bahamas, has promptly called off his plans to focus on the unfolding crisis. This unexpected turn of events has sent shockwaves across the nation, with citizens anxiously awaiting any updates on the situation.

The disappearance comes against the backdrop of a tumultuous political landscape, with Chilima himself no stranger to controversy. In 2022, he was embroiled in a bribery scandal that led to his arrest and subsequent stripping of powers. However, just last month, the charges against him were dropped, providing a glimmer of hope amidst the turmoil.
