Plymouth Argyle pulled off a stunning FA Cup giant-killing, defeating Premier League leaders Liverpool in a thrilling encounter at Home Park.
The Championship’s bottom-placed side made the most of their opportunity, sending shockwaves through the competition with a determined performance.
Liverpool boss Arne Slot heavily rotated his squad, making 10 changes from the team that dominated Tottenham en route to the Carabao Cup final.
However, his gamble backfired as Plymouth seized their chance to progress to the fifth round.
The match remained scrappy until the 53rd minute when Plymouth were awarded a penalty following Harvey Elliott’s handball. Ryan Hardie stepped up and confidently smashed home the spot-kick, sealing a historic victory for the underdogs.
Hardie almost added a second shortly afterwards when his shot was turned on to the post by Liverpool keeper Caoimhin Kelleher.
Liverpool applied some pressure in the closing stages, keeper Conor Hazard saving superbly from Diogo Jota then miraculously from substitute Darwin Nunez’s header, but Plymouth closed out a landmark win under new manager Miron Muslic.
