A train derailment on the Warri-Itakpe route has been confirmed by the Delta State Police Command, revealing that no life was lost.

SP Bright Edafe, the Command Spokesman, confirmed the incident to reporters in Warri on Friday, stating, “It is accurate; no casualties or fatalities were reported.”

An anonymous passenger revealed that the derailment occurred on Thursday evening in Abraka, located in Ethiope East Local Government Area.

The train was en route from Itakpe in Kogi State to Ujevwu in Delta State when one of its coaches derailed just before reaching the Abraka train station.

The passenger recounted, “The incident occurred at about 7:15 pm, a few meters from the Abraka train station. I could not proceed with my journey. Some passengers jumped through the doors as the train slowed down, dragging the remaining coaches with the derailed one. There were minor injuries among passengers due to the stampede that followed.”

The journey between the Abraka train station and the Ujevwu Terminal station typically takes about 20 minutes by rail.
