Police gun down notorious kidnap kingpin ‘Condiment’ in Cross River
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has successfully neutralized a notorious kidnap kingpin, Ubong Effiong Archibong, also known as “Condiment,” during a fierce gun battle at his hideout in Uyanga Community, Cross River State.
This was revealed in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Akwa Ibom State, ASP Timfon John, on Thursday in Uyo. Archibong was the gang leader of the Bling Bling Marine Strike Force, a criminal group known for terrorizing the Uruan/Oron Waterways.
Among his many crimes, Archibong was responsible for the kidnapping of High Court Judge, Joy Unwana, and the murder of her police orderly, Inspector ThankGod Edet. The successful operation marks a significant victory in the fight against kidnapping and violent crime in the region.
She stated, “The State Police Command on Wednesday 28 August neutralized a dreaded kidnap kingpin/sea pirate whose stock in trade was to kidnap, kill, maim and cause havoc in the society.
“The kingpin, Ubong Effiong Archibong (M) alias Condiment, a gang leader of Bling Bling Marine Strike Force terrorizing Uruan/Oron Waterways were responsible for kidnapping of a High Court Judge, Joy Unwana and killing of her Police orderly Inspector ThankGod Edet, gruesome murder of the CEO Emem and Sons Ltd and kidnapping of his sales rep.
“The suspect was also responsible for the kidnap of Pharmacist Joemel as well as also being responsible for the kidnap of Mr. Brown m, CEO Mingles Hotel.
“The Suspect was neutralized during a gun battle with operatives of the Command in his hideout at Uyanga Community in Cross River State.One G3 riffle with four live ammunition were recovered from the suspect.
“The corpse of the suspect was recovered and deposited at the morgue. Investigations with intent to arrest other members of his gang are ongoing.”
