Potter’s House Church senior pastor T.D. Jakes steps aside, hands over to Daughter, Son-in-law

Bishop T.D. Jakes has officially announced his decision to hand over the leadership of The Potter’s House church to his daughter, Sarah Jakes Roberts, and her husband, Toure Roberts.

The announcement was made during Sunday’s service, coming months after the renowned preacher suffered a massive heart attack while delivering a sermon.

Although the church disclosed that the leadership transition had been in planning for years, the recent health scare fast-tracked the process.

During an emotional service, Jakes expressed gratitude to the congregation for their loyalty and support over the years.

“You have been faithful to God, and you have been faithful to me. And I’m so grateful,” he told the church members. Holding back tears, he confirmed that Sarah and Toure would officially assume leadership in July.

In response, Sarah Jakes Roberts expressed her appreciation and readiness for the new responsibility.

“I’m grateful, I’m honored, as your daughter. I’m so happy you’re going to get some rest,” she said.

T.D. Jakes, who established The Potter’s House in 1996, acknowledged that his hospitalization after the heart attack played a major role in the decision to hand over.

“I cannot afford, especially after November, to risk something happening to me and you be sheep without a shepherd,” he stated.
