President Tinubu chairs National Security meeting amid nationwide protests

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently presiding a National Security Council meeting at the State House in Abuja.

The meeting, held in the President’s office, includes all heads of security and law enforcement agencies.

This gathering comes in the context of ongoing nationwide protests against hunger and poor governance. On Sunday, President Tinubu had appealed to protest organizers to suspend the demonstrations, citing violence and damage in several states.

The President, who said that he had heard the grievances of the protesters loud and clear, also warned that he would not sit and watch some people used by opposition politicians to destroy the democracy in the country.

Also at the meeting are Vice President Kashim Shettima, the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.

Among the security and law enforcement agency heads participating are the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, and the three service chiefs; as well as the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun.

Also in the meeting are the Director-General of the Department of State Service (DSS), Yusuf Bichi; Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Rufai, Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Col Adewale Adeniyi; as well as the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nanna Nandap.
