Birth
Oyebanji was born in Ikogosi, Ekiti State, Nigeria, on December 21, 1967, and is of Yoruba descent.
Education
Oyebanji first attended Baptist Primary School in Ikogosi, Ekiti.
From 1979 to 1983, he attended Awo Community High School, C.A.C. Grammar School in Efon-Alaaye, Ekiti State, the Federal School of Art and Science in Ondo State, and the District Commercial Secondary School in Aramoko, Ekiti State.
In 1989, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science (BSc.) in Political Science from what is now Ekiti State University in Ado-Ekiti, and in 1992, he earned a Master of Science degree from the University of Ibadan in Oyo State.
Career
Oyebanji began his career as a lecturer in the University of Ado Ekiti’s Department of Political Science, where he worked for four years.
He then went on to work as the manager of Treasury and Financial Services at the now-defunct Omega Bank Plc (formerly Heritage Bank) until May 1999.
Oyebanji chairs Con Dois Farms Ltd. and is also active in the agribusiness sector.
Oyebanji was named Secretary of the Ekiti State Development Fund and Secretary of the committee that was formed to create Ekiti State in 1994. Baba Deji Falegan chaired this committee.
Politics
During Nigeria’s initial democratic transition, Oyebanji was the special adviser to Otunba Niyi Adebayo, the state’s first democratically elected governor.
In 2003, Oyebanji attained the rank of Chief of Staff to the Governor.
He was appointed by the federal ministry of youth and sports development in 2009 as chairman of the governing board of the Citizenship and Leadership Training Center, a position that he held until December 2010.
Under Kayode Fayemi’s administration, Oyebanji was appointed as commissioner for integration and intergovernmental affairs in 2010 and later as head of Ekiti’s office of transformation strategy and delivery (OTSD) a year later.
After being reelected to a second term as Ekiti State governor in 2018, Oyebanji was appointed secretary to the state government (SSG) by Kayode Fayemi.
In order to pursue his ambition of becoming governor under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, Oyebanji resigned his post as Secretary to the State Government in 2021.
On 8 December 2021, Oyebanji declared his intention to contest the Ekiti State Gubernatorial Election in 2022.
Following his victory in the party’s primaries, he was named the party’s nominee for governor of California in 2022.
Oyebanji was elected governor on the APC platform on June 18, 2022. On October 16, 2022, he was sworn in as the governor of Ekiti State.

The wife of Oyebanji, Prof. (Mrs.) Oyebanji, is a princess of Ado Ekiti and an associate professor at the University of Ibadan.
