Agbu Kefas was born in Wukari, Taraba State (formerly Gongola State), Nigeria, on November 12, 1970.
Education
Kefas graduated from the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna in 1994 with a degree in Political Science and Defense Studies, following his completion of his elementary and secondary education.
He graduated from Delta State University, Abraka in 2008 with a master’s degree in public administration after earning one in legal criminology and security psychology in 2005.
He attended the esteemed Harvard Kennedy School in the United States.
Career
After his retirement from the Nigerian army, he was appointed to chair the Governing board of directors of the Nigerian Maritime and Safety Agency(NIMASA) from 2013 to 2015.
From 2016 to 2019, he served on the presidential committee on the Northeast Initiative.
Kefas became the People’s Democratic Party’s Taraba State State Chairman in 2020.
Prior to the Taraba State 2023 governor’s race, he emerged as the party’s flagbearer in 2022.
As a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, which is the ruling party in the state, he ran for governor of Taraba State in March 2023.
Following his election victory, he took the oath of office as state governor.
Family
Kefas is a Muslim and the brother of the late Air Commodore Ibrahim Kefas.
He is also a member of the Deeper Life Bible Church. He has been a member of the church from a very young age. He gave his life to Jesus at the age of fourteen.
Agbu is happily married to Agyin and they have four children together.
