Babajide Sanwo-Olu was born on 25th June, 1965 in Lagos State, Nigeria.
Education
Sanwo-Olu completed his secondary education at Ijebu-Ife Grammar School in Ogun State after beginning his secondary education at Government Demonstration School, Gbaja, Surulere, following his elementary education.
He graduated from the University of Lagos with an MBA and a degree in surveying.
He also attended Lagos Business School, London Business School, and John F. Kennedy School of Government.
Career
Prior to leading the United Bank for Africa’s foreign money division, Sanwo-Olu served as treasurer at the former Lead Merchant Bank from 1994 to 1997.
Additionally, he held the position of manager at First Inland Bank, Plc, which is now known as First City Monument Bank.
He served as the First Class Group Limited’s and Baywatch Group Limited’s chairman.Femi Pedro, the former deputy governor of Lagos State, appointed him as a special adviser on corporate matters in 2003.
In 2007, Gov. Bola Tinubu named him Commissioner of Commerce and Industry, following his tenure as acting Commissioner of Economic Planning and Budget.
He was appointed as the Managing Director/CEO of the Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC) in 2016 by Governors Akinwunmi Ambode and Babatunde Fashola, and subsequently as the Commissioner for Establishments, Training, and Pensions.
Additionally, he is an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) and a fellow of the Nigeria Institute of Training and Development (NITAD).
Politics
He was elected governor under the All Progressives Congress banner in October 2018 after challenging Akinwunmi Ambode, the outgoing governor, in the APC gubernatorial primary.
He ran under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and was reelected as governor in March 2023.
