BREAKING: PSC orders immediate retirement of officers above 60years

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has ordered the immediate retirement of senior police officers who have exceeded 35 years of service or are above 60 years of age.

The decision was made at the Commission’s first extraordinary meeting held on Friday, January 31, 2025, and was presided over by PSC Chairman, retired DIG Hashimu Argungu. Other key officials present included Justice Adamu Paul Galumje (rtd.), DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd.), and Chief Onyemuchi Nnamani.

This move follows a review of a previous decision made at the 24th plenary meeting on September 27-28, 2017, which allowed police entrants to count their appointment date instead of enlistment date for service computation. However, after a fresh evaluation, the PSC concluded that this contradicts the Public Service Rules (020908 i & ii), which mandate retirement after 35 years of service or at age 60.

The Commission has officially communicated this directive to the Inspector General of Police for immediate enforcement.
