Quadri Aruna’s children shine at João Monteiro Table Tennis Tournament in Portugal
The children of Nigerian table tennis icon Quadri Aruna have made their mark at the João Monteiro Table Tennis Tournament held over the weekend in Portugal.
While Aruna was competing at the WTT Contender Doha, where he reached the semi-finals, his children, Mariam, Aruna Junior, and Amirah, showcased their skills in Portugal. Coached by their mother, Ganiyat Aruna, the trio achieved podium finishes across various categories.
Mariam Aruna secured second place in the U-15 category, while her brother, Aruna Junior, claimed the runner-up spot in the U-11 category.
Their younger sibling, Amirah, earned third place in the same U-11 category, celebrating her first-ever trophy in table tennis.
“It’s not easy. Since 7 am in the morning. Alhamdulillah, it all ended joyfully and with praises,” she wrote on Facebook.
“All thanks to mum and dad. We are the Arunas. We go again tomorrow All on God,” she wrote.
Their feat was also celebrated by the Africa Table Tennis Federation.
“The Aruna siblings are keeping the table tennis legacy alive. The three youngsters proudly made the podium at the João Monteiro competition in Portugal, much to the delight of their coach and mother, Ganiyat,” ITTF Africa wrote on Instagram.
