President Bola Tinubu has directed the police to provide immediate security for local government officials in Rivers State and restore peace following escalating tensions.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu emphasized the importance of safeguarding public institutions against vandalism, particularly after recent arson and explosions in the state.

Highlighting that “self-help” has no place in a democracy, Tinubu stressed that political disputes should be resolved through the judiciary, not violence.

He also called on Governor Siminalayi Fubara and political leaders in Rivers State to exercise restraint and ensure the rule of law prevails.

The President urged all parties to discourage their supporters from engaging in further violence or destructive actions, reinforcing the need to uphold democratic principles after 25 years of continuous democracy.
