A notorious criminal leader, Maigemu, has been eliminated in Kebbi State following a coordinated operation by security forces and local vigilantes.

Confirming the development in a statement on Friday, Alhaji Abdulrahman Zagga, the Director of Security at the Cabinet Office in Birnin Kebbi, revealed that Maigemu was taken down on Thursday in Kuncin Baba, a remote and rugged area within the Arewa Local Government Area.

The operation, which led to his demise, followed an intense gun battle between security operatives and the criminal gang.

“He was taken down by a combined team of security agents and local vigilantes while working on intelligence.

“The operation comes just a week after Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, visited Bagiza and Rausa Kade communities to commiserate with residents following the killing of six people by suspected Lakurawa cattle rustlers.

“During his visit, Governor Idris assured locals of heightened security measures and swift reinforcements to combat rising criminal activities in the region,” the statement read.

Zagga praised the governor’s unwavering commitment to security and the continuous logistical support provided to security agencies.

He also urged residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with security forces, and report any suspicious activities to help restore peace.

The Lakurawa group, reportedly linked to extremist organizations, has been responsible for a series of deadly attacks across Northern Nigeria, particularly in Sokoto and Kebbi states.
