Senator Konbowei, Ekpeyong to head Senate Committee on South-South Development Commission

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has officially named Senator Benson Konbowei, representing Bayelsa Central, as chairman of the newly constituted Senate committee on the South-South Development Commission (SSDC).
Konbowei, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), will lead the committee tasked with overseeing legislative matters relating to the commission once it becomes operational.
Joining him as vice-chairman is Senator Asuquo Ekpeyong, who represents Cross River South under the All Progressives Congress (APC). Other members of the committee include Onowakpo Joel (Delta South), Benson Agadaga (Bayelsa East), Neda Imasuen (Edo South), and Allwell Onyesoh (Rivers East).
The committee also features Samson Ekong (Akwa Ibom South), Samaila Kaila (Bauchi North), Mustapha Musa (Yobe East), Patrick Ndubueze (Imo North), Idiat Adebule (Lagos West), and Mustapha Saliu (Kwara Central).
Senator Konbowei, before his election to the Senate in 2023, served as Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly and later as Secretary to the State Government, bringing a wealth of legislative and executive experience to the position.
The committee will play a pivotal role in shaping the structure and operations of the South-South Development Commission, expected to drive regional development initiatives across the oil-rich South-South states.
