Sheikh Hadiyatullah, Supreme Council for Shari’ah President is dead

The President of the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN), Sheikh Abdul Rasheed Hadiyatullah, has died.
This was announced in a statement on Monday night by Sheikh Daood Imran Molaasan, the Grand Mufti of Yorubaland, though he did not reveal the exact date or place of his passing.
Sheikh Molaasan described the late cleric’s death as a major loss to the Islamic community in Nigeria.
He said Sheikh Hadiyatullah, born in Iwo, Osun State, came from a town known for its rich Islamic tradition.
He was highly regarded for his strong advocacy for the implementation of Shari’ah law within the nation’s legal system, his promotion of interfaith dialogue, and his efforts toward peaceful coexistence among Nigeria’s religious groups.
According to Molaasan, the late cleric led the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria for several years, offering steady guidance during difficult and progressive periods alike.
Sheikh Hadiyatullah had his foundational Islamic education under local scholars before furthering his studies abroad, earning nationwide and international respect for his deep understanding of Islamic law and his calm, principled leadership style.
Sheikh Molaasan concluded by praying for Allah’s forgiveness for Sheikh Hadiyatullah and for him to be granted a place in Jannatul Firdaus.
