An auto crash involving an articulated vehicle in Kogi State on Tuesday has claimed six lives and left 60 others injured, officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have confirmed.

The tragic incident, which occurred in Lokoja, was attributed to excessive speed, according to the Kogi Sector Commander of the FRSC, Samuel Oyedeji.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Oyedeji emphasized the dangers of high-speed driving, urging motorists to exercise caution and adhere to road safety guidelines to prevent such avoidable accidents.

According to Oyedeji: “The accident occurred around 3 pm and I can confirm to you that six persons died, while 60 others got injured.

“Our officers in collaboration with the Police and NSCDC personnel have rushed the injured to the Kogi Specialist Hospital and the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, for medical attention.

“The six corpses have also been deposited at the Federal University Teaching Hospital.

“We learnt the truck from Bauchi was heading to Enugu State before the unfortunate incident occurred around Zone 8 Roundabout, Lokoja, KOGI.”

The sector commander decried the notoriety of motorists, especially drivers of trucks and buses, who indiscriminately conveyed both animals and human beings in their vehicles.

Oyedeji, who could not disclose the number of animals affected by the accident, appealed to motorists to endeavour to comply with safety rules and regulations to prevent loss of lives and property.
