A devastating accident on Monday afternoon claimed the lives of six students from the Federal University, Lokoja (FUL), along with their shuttle bus driver, when an articulated vehicle lost control and crashed into their bus.

The tragic incident occurred around 2:30 PM at the university’s permanent site in Felele, Lokoja.

According to eyewitnesses, the truck, which was transporting wood and hundreds of kegs of palm oil toward Abuja, suffered a brake failure.

In a fatal turn of events, it rammed into the fully occupied FUL shuttle bus just as it was set to transport students to school.

“The university shuttle bus was crushed by the articulated vehicles.”

However, officers of the Federal Road Safety Commission were on hand to rescue some victims who were trapped under the articulated vehicle.

The State Sector Commandant of the FRSC, Mr Samuel Oyedeji, who led his team to the scene of the accident, disclosed to newsmen that he couldn’t confirm the actual numbers of those who lost their lives.

He, however, disclosed those who were injured have been moved to Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja and Kogi State Specialist Hospital, also in Lokoja, for further treatment, while bodies have been deposited in the mortuary of the hospitals for identification.
