Former presidential candidate and activist, Omoyele Sowore, has been granted bail following his engagement with the Force Intelligence Department (FID) of the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja on Monday, January 27, 2025.

Sowore was summoned by the police to address multiple allegations, including disobedience to lawful orders, obstruction of public officers, cyberstalking, and acts allegedly aimed at preventing arrests.

Announcing his release in a statement, Sowore disclosed that the Deputy Inspector-General of the FID, Dasuki Galandachi, informed him of the bail offer, pending the conclusion of ongoing investigations into the allegations.

“The DIG of FID, Dasuki Galandachi, at the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja had just informed me that he has instructed his personnel to grant me bail, pending the conclusion of the “investigation,” he wrote.

He said he has advised the DIG that in accepting the “bail”, he won’t agree to conditions that compromise his innocence, dignity, and integrity.

“If such unreasonable conditions are imposed, I will choose to remain in detention until I am charged to court, even then I know that there is no crime defined or to be investigated it is just the impunity that has become the hallmark of the PoliceNG hierarchy,” he said.

According to him, he is being targeted by the police because of his criticism against the tenure extension for Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police.

The activist also alleged that the police planned to detain him and take him to Lagos for a kangaroo trial.
