Tension as bandits storm parish house, abduct Catholic priest in Kaduna

Rev. Father Gabriel Ukeh, the presiding priest of St. Thomas Parish, has been abducted by bandits in Zaman Dabo Community, Kaduna, according to reports.

The kidnapping occurred in the early hours of Sunday at the parish rectory. The Vicar General (Pastoral), Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Kazah, announced the news in a press statement.

In the statement, Rev. Kazah expressed the urgent need for prayers for the safe release of Father Ukeh.

He also condemned the alarming trend of kidnappings for ransom, emphasizing the vulnerability of innocent citizens in communities.

Rev. Kazah urged the government to intensify security measures, particularly as the Sallah celebration approaches. He emphasized the importance of collaboration with security agencies to ensure Father Ukeh’s swift and safe return, while also urging against vigilantism.

The Kaduna State Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, stated that he would verify the information and provide further updates.
