Tension in Borno community as Boko Haram Commander issues deadly threat

Residents of Banki, a border town in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, are living in fear following a threat from a suspected Boko Haram commander, identified as Mulwuta.

According to local sources, Mulwuta warned that if the people of Banki fail to “repent” before Ramadan, they would be “slaughtered like goats.” This warning has caused widespread panic in the community, which has suffered multiple attacks from insurgents in the past.

Counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, in a report on Sunday, stated that the threat has intensified fear among residents. However, some people remain defiant, recalling their survival during the reign of Abubakar Shekau, the former Boko Haram leader.

“Even when Shekau was alive, the town did not fall to the terrorists,” a resident said, expressing confidence in their resilience.
