Three students from Cross River State University tragically died in an auto crash on Tuesday while traveling home following the institution’s two-week closure aimed at preventing participation in the hardship protest set for August 1.

The accident happened near Ikom along the Calabar–Ikom highway as the students, who were in a bus, were heading to Ogoja in the northern part of the state.

An eyewitness, Ndoma Akunobor, who was also in the bus, reported that the deceased students were from the departments of Microbiology, Plant Science, and Biotechnology.

Their names were not confirmed at the time of reporting.

The university’s management had ordered the closure from July 30 to August 12 in anticipation of the nationwide protest.
