‘Tinubu has tried keeping him this long’ Datti Baba-Ahmed fires fresh salvo at Shettima

Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, has stirred up fresh controversy with his pointed remarks about Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima, suggesting that he should not have lasted this long in office.
Speaking during an interview on ARISE NEWS on Thursday, Baba-Ahmed said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu deserves some credit for retaining Shettima till now.
Without going into explicit details, Baba-Ahmed hinted that the real reasons behind Shettima’s continuous rise and relevance in Nigerian politics are too sensitive to be discussed openly.
“I don’t blame Tinubu, because whoever knows what Shettima did and does will not even allow him to last this long. The airwaves cannot carry it.”
“I’m telling you, the airwaves cannot carry it. And I know I’m speaking on TV. So Tinubu has tried keeping him this long. So, even the consideration that he be dropped, I think Tinubu has tried for keeping him this long,” he stated.
Baba-Ahmed’s comments were part of a larger criticism of the current administration, which he claimed came to power through manipulation and secrecy.
He insisted that the presidency, as it stands, is built on a false image of legitimacy and public acceptance.
“You see a flourishing, powerful president. I see a rigged leader,” he declared, describing the 2023 presidential election as a product of deceit and electoral malpractice.
