Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu did not create the economic challenges currently confronting Nigeria, but is working hard to revive the nation’s economy and improve infrastructure.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday after meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, the governor urged Nigerians to support President Tinubu’s administration in its efforts to stabilise the economy.

“As I often say, President Tinubu did not create the economic problem we face today,” Eno remarked. “I believe he is doing his best and deserves our collective support to complete the job.”

The Akwa Ibom governor also highlighted his achievements since assuming office, noting that his administration has made notable strides in basic infrastructure over the past two years.

“In Akwa Ibom, we’ve addressed key areas and are making steady progress,” he explained. “We’ve recorded gains in education, healthcare, roads, and markets, our impact is visible across various sectors.”

Eno revealed that the first half of his tenure focused on rural development, with the state government now shifting attention to major infrastructure projects and tourism development.

He also acknowledged the contributions of past leaders in Akwa Ibom’s growth, pledging to consolidate on the foundations they laid.

“We’ve continued the work of past governors, from Obong Victor Attah to Godswill Akpabio, Udom Emmanuel and now myself,” he stated. “It’s a strong foundation and Akwa Ibom is progressing steadily compared to many other states.”

On youth empowerment, the governor announced the launch of an employment portal aimed at creating job opportunities for young people in the state.

“We are investing in our youths through skills acquisition, enterprise support and small business empowerment,” Eno said.

“The employment portal has been effective in job placement and our wider plan is to rebuild the middle class by empowering our young people and entrepreneurs.”
