President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of new members for the governing councils of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (NAU), and the University of Abuja (Yakubu Gowon University).

This decision comes months after the president dissolved the former governing council of the University of Abuja and dismissed its vice-chancellor, Aisha Maikudi, following controversies surrounding her appointment.

In a statement issued by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the newly constituted council members for the University of Abuja include Prof. Rosemary Iriowen Egonmwan (South-South), Dr. Adedeji Adefuye (South West), Prof. Sarki Abba Abdulkadir (North West), and Prof. Aminu Mohammed Dukku (North East).

At the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), President Tinubu appointed Rt. Hon. Barr. Ogbonna Eugene Odo (South East) and Muhammad Inuwa Tahir (North West) as members of its new council.

For Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (NAU), the newly approved members are Dr. Nkem Okeke (South East), Ofoke Chukwuma Charles Ugbala (South East), Dame Amina Patrick Yakowa (North West), and Nojeeb Oriola Agunbiade (South West).

The appointments are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen university governance and improve academic administration across federal tertiary institutions in the country.
