Tinubu to visit Saint Lucia for official engagements, weeklong vacation from June 28

President Bola Tinubu is set to leave Nigeria on June 28 for an official visit and private holiday in Saint Lucia, according to an announcement by the Caribbean nation’s Prime Minister, Philip J. Pierre.
The disclosure was made during a pre-cabinet briefing on Monday, as reported by local outlet, St Lucia Times.
Prime Minister Pierre revealed that June 30 and July 1 have been reserved for official engagements, while the rest of the president’s visit will be for personal leisure.
He described Tinubu’s trip as a unique and historic opportunity to strengthen ties between Africa and the Caribbean, given their shared ancestral heritage.
“The visit of the president of Nigeria represents a unique and historic opportunity to deepen the bonds between Africa and the Caribbean,” Pierre stated.
“As descendants of a shared heritage, the people of our region trace deep links to the African continent, particularly Nigeria.”
To mark the significance of the occasion, Pierre said he has extended invitations to heads of government from the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) to gather in Saint Lucia for formal talks with President Tinubu.
The OECS comprises Antigua and Barbuda, the Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
The official discussions are expected to focus on areas such as economic development, education, infrastructure, and diplomatic collaboration.
This development comes as Nigeria grapples with a fresh wave of killings, particularly the recent massacre in Benue State where about 200 lives were reportedly lost in coordinated attacks.
The tragedy has sparked public outrage and calls for decisive government action.
Tinubu’s planned visit to Saint Lucia also follows his recent trip to Paris in April, where he embarked on a two-week “short working visit.”
