Tragic auto crash kills eight in Imo

A fatal road accident on Sunday involving a Toyota Camry (registration number: EPE 541 JO) and a Hyundai Santa FE (registration number: AAA 212 CD) resulted in the tragic loss of eight lives.
The collision occurred at Amala, Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State, leaving no survivors among the occupants of both vehicles.
According to reports, officers from the Ngor-Okpala Divisional Police Headquarters promptly responded to the scene.
The spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Henry Okoye, confirmed that the deceased were swiftly evacuated and taken to the mortuary. Additionally, authorities cleared the wreckage from the road to restore traffic flow.
He stated that the command had launched an investigation to unravel the cause of the accident and to identify the families of the deceased.
“Pictorial evidence has also been documented to aid further inquiries into the cause of the accident,” he hinted.
Following the development, the Police Commissioner in the State, CP Aboki Danjuma, has cautioned motorists against reckless driving and excessive speeding, pointing out that the two factors remained major causes of road accidents.
He urges all road users to drive responsibly, observe traffic rules and exercise patience while on the road.
“Every driver has a duty to protect not only their lives but also those of other road users by adhering to established road safety regulations,” the CP advised.
He enjoined members of the public to assist the police by providing any useful information that may aid in identifying the victims.
“Anyone with relevant details should contact the nearest police station,” he stated.
