BREAKING: Tragic tanker explosion in Jigawa claims over 90 lives, injures 50 others
A devastating petrol tanker explosion in Majiya Town, Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State has claimed the lives of no fewer than 90 people, with 50 others injured.
The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday night, near Khadija University.
Shi’isu Adam, the Police Spokesperson in Jigawa, confirmed the details to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday.
According to Adam, the tanker driver, en route from Kano to Nguru in Yobe, lost control at around 11:30 p.m., causing the tanker to explode.
Despite warnings from authorities to avoid such accident scenes, people had gathered around the tanker, resulting in the high number of casualties.
A mass burial for the victims was scheduled for 9 a.m. on Wednesday, while those injured are currently receiving treatment at the Ringim General Hospital.
