Troops neutralize extremists in Zamfara after fierce gun battle
In a significant victory against violent extremism, troops from the 1 Brigade and Sector 1 Joint Task Force (North West) under Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD), part of Operation Sahel Sanity II, successfully neutralized two extremists in Zamfara State.
The operation took place on August 16, 2024, in the Unguwar Sarkin Musulmi area of Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, following credible intelligence reports of extremist activities in the region. According to a statement released by Lt. Suleiman Omale of OPHD, the troops swiftly responded to the threat, engaging the extremists in a fierce gun battle.
The encounter ended with the neutralization of two extremists, further bolstering the ongoing efforts to restore peace and security in Zamfara State. This operation is part of a broader strategy by Nigerian security forces to combat violent extremism and protect communities from the threats posed by such elements.
According to him, other bandits were forced to withdraw in disarray during the encounter.
Lt. Omale further stated that the troops conducted a mop-up operation, during which they recovered one operational motorcycle belonging to the Violent Extremist.
He pointed out that the area has since been secured, with troops of Sector 1 Joint Task Force (North West) Operation Hadarin Daji maintaining an aggressive presence and conducting confidence-building patrols to ensure the safety of locals in the community.
