Two explosions were reported early Tuesday morning in Tabriz, a city in north-western Iran known for its strategic military importance, as tensions between Iran and Israel continue to rise.

Local media, including the Ham Mihan newspaper, reported that the blasts occurred just five minutes apart.

The Mehr news agency also released a video showing thick black smoke rising from the scene shortly after the explosions.

Tabriz, which lies more than 600 kilometres from the capital Tehran, is home to a major air force base and has been highlighted as a key military location.

The cause of the explosions has not yet been officially confirmed, though they come amid intensified cross-border hostilities between Iran and Israel.

In a separate development, Iranian Army Ground Forces Commander General Kioumars Heidari claimed that Iran had launched precision drone attacks overnight on strategic targets in Tel Aviv and Haifa.

Heidari told state television that the drones were “equipped with precise destruction and targeting capabilities.”

However, the Israel Defense Forces, IDF, stated it had intercepted approximately 30 drones, most of which are believed to have originated from Iran. The military reported no successful drone strikes on Israeli territory, with many of the UAVs shot down before breaching Israeli airspace.
