UEFA has launched an official investigation into four Real Madrid players, Kylian Mbappé, Vinícius Júnior, Antonio Rüdiger, and Dani Ceballos, over alleged “indecent conduct” during their Champions League Round of 16 victory against Atlético Madrid.

The European football governing body confirmed the development in a statement, revealing that an Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector has been assigned to examine the accusations.

The probe could lead to disciplinary action against the players ahead of Real Madrid’s crucial quarter-final first-leg fixture against Arsenal on April 8.

While specific details of the allegations remain unclear, UEFA’s move suggests that the players’ actions during or after the match raised concerns.

As the investigation unfolds, Real Madrid will be keenly watching the situation, hoping to avoid potential suspensions or fines that could impact their Champions League campaign.

Spanish media reports suggested Real Madrid players are being scrutinised by UEFA for the manner of their celebrations after the win.

UEFA and Real Madrid did not immediately respond to an AFP request for comment.

Record 15-time champions and current holders Madrid beat their rivals on penalties at Atletico’s Metropolitano stadium on March 12 after a 2-2 aggregate draw.

The night ended in controversy after Atletico forward Julian Alvarez had a penalty controversially disallowed in the shoot-out for supposedly touching the ball twice.
