Manchester United’s Europa League journey began with a 1-1 stalemate against FC Twente at a rain-soaked Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

Christian Eriksen gave United the lead with a stunning strike, but Dutch forward Sam Lammers leveled the score, leaving both teams to share the points.

The match started energetically, with Lammers coming close for Twente early on, his shot narrowly missing the post.

Eriksen put United in front just 10 minutes before halftime, firing a brilliant curling effort into the top corner from inside the box.

However, the lead didn’t last, as Twente equalised in the 68th minute, with Lammers slotting a powerful shot past United goalkeeper Andre Onana at his near post.

United nearly regained the advantage soon after, when Joshua Zirkzee’s attempt from a tight angle was denied by Twente’s shot-stopper, Lars Unnerstall.

In the final minutes, Bruno Fernandes came close to securing a win for the Red Devils with a curling effort aimed at the top corner, but Twente’s deep defensive line held firm, frustrating the hosts and securing a well-earned point for the visitors.
