UEL: Man Utd held to 1-1 draw by Fenerbahce
Manchester United’s struggles to hold onto a lead continued as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Fenerbahce in the UEFA Europa League.
Christian Eriksen gave the visitors an early advantage with a stunning strike in the first half, but Youssef En-Nesyri’s second-half header leveled the match for the Turkish side.
Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho, a former United boss, was sent off for protesting a refereeing decision after his side was denied a penalty.
Despite United weathering early pressure and Marcus Rashford coming close to doubling the lead, Fenerbahce fought back to secure a point.
Andre Onana’s brilliant double save kept United in the game, but they couldn’t capitalize, leaving them frustrated in Istanbul.
However, the former Sevilla striker – who had scored twice when the La Liga side knocked United out of this competition back in 2023 – levelled within four minutes of the restart when he headed home an inviting left-wing cross.
United controlled much of the second period but could not find the winner as they once again let a lead slip to make it three successive draws in this competition.
Next up, The Red Devils visit West Ham in the Premier League on Sunday.
