President Bola Tinubu has sent his goodwill message to Keir Starmer, the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and the leader of the Labour Party.

According to a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, on Friday, Tinubu, a former opposition leader in Nigeria, is particularly impressed by the determination and courage exhibited by the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom during his tenure as the leader of the Labour Party and in opposition.

Tinubu also extended his congratulations to Starmer.

He added that the party’s ability to reform, mobilise, and position itself for victory after 14 years clearly affirms the leadership qualities of Starmer.

Tinubu said, “President Tinubu also congratulates the citizens and the government of the United Kingdom, describing the Kingdom as an abiding model of democracy and Nigeria’s long-standing partner.

“The President looks forward to deepening relations between Nigeria and the United Kingdom in mutual areas of interest and in strengthening democratic institutions, as well as in building a safer and more prosperous future for the people of both countries.”

News360 Nigeria had earlier reported how Keir Starmer became the new UK Prime Minister after his party ended the 14 year-rule of Conservative Party.

Rishi Sunak of Conservative Party earlier on Friday resigned as prime minister after meeting the monarch.

In his resignation speech, Sunak said he would also step down as Conservative Party leader, but not immediately.

Starmer earlier pledged to usher in a new era of change in Britain after his party’s victory in the parliamentary election, bringing an end to 14 years of Conservative rule.
