Veteran NTA broadcaster Joy Osiagwu is dead
Renowned Nigerian broadcaster and former NTA news anchor, Joy Osiagwu, has passed away. Reports indicate that she died last Friday at Arewa Hospital in Jabi, Abuja, following a brief illness.
Osiagwu’s illustrious career in journalism spanned over two decades, during which she showcased exceptional versatility as a reporter, producer, news anchor, videographer, and film editor.
Osiagwu dedicated years of service to the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), covering a range of assignments both domestically and internationally. She notably reported on Senate proceedings at the National Assembly, working alongside other distinguished journalists.
Her international contributions included serving as NTA’s correspondent in Ottawa, Canada, and later at Nigeria’s Mission to the United Nations in New York, where she covered high-profile events such as Nigeria’s rotational presidency of the UN Security Council under Ambassador Joy Ogwu and the UN Global Compact for Migration summit in Marrakech.
Her educational background was equally impressive, holding a Master’s in Business Administration and Media Leadership from the University of Cumbria, UK, a post-graduate diploma from Columbia Academy in Vancouver, and a Bachelor’s degree in Drama from Ahmadu Bello University.
After 23 impactful years, she retired from NTA in 2019 to focus on media consultancy. Her legacy in journalism and her unwavering commitment to storytelling will be fondly remembered.
