The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially announced the release of results for the 2024 second series of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates.

According to a statement by WAEC’s Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, a total of 43,923 candidates—67.55% of those who sat for the exam—achieved credit and above in at least five subjects. More specifically, 34,878 candidates (53.64%) passed five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.

This marks a significant improvement over previous years, with a 9.35% increase in performance compared to 2022 and 2023, when only 42.16% and 44.29% of candidates, respectively, met the same benchmark.

The examination was conducted in 5,067 centers across Nigeria, utilizing both traditional paper-based and computer-based formats. Among the 65,023 candidates who participated, 31,504 were male, while 33,519 were female, giving females a slight lead at 51.55%.

WAEC also reported that results for 62,354 candidates (95.90%) have been fully processed and released, while 2,669 candidates (4.10%) are still awaiting their results due to submission errors.

However, 2,577 candidates (3.96%) had their results withheld due to alleged examination malpractice. Affected candidates can visit the WAEC Notice of Examination Malpractice Portal to address the allegations.
