WAFU B U17 Girls’ Cup: Olowookere calls up Moshood, Chidi, Effiong, 22 others to camp
Head Coach Bankole Olowookere has summoned 25 players to Nigeria’s U17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, as they gear up for the WAFU B U17 Girls’ Cup, scheduled for December 12–26, 2024, in Ghana.
Olowookere has retained a core group from the squad that reached the quarter-finals of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic, where they also earned the FIFA Fair Play Trophy.
The Flamingos were eliminated by the eventual bronze medallists, the USA, in a 2-0 loss.
Notable inclusions are midfielder Shakirat Moshood, who netted four goals during the World Cup, as well as goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma, defenders Taiwo Adegoke, Jumai Adebayo, and Prisca Nwachukwu, midfielder Farida Abdulwahab, and forwards Harmony Chidi, Peace Effiong, and Janet Akekoromowei.
Nigeria is placed in Group B of the six-team tournament, alongside Cote d’Ivoire and Niger Republic.
Group A features host nation Ghana, Burkina Faso, and Benin Republic, promising an exciting two weeks of competition.
All invited players are expected to report at the Remo Stars Sports Institute, Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State on Tuesday, 3rd December 2024.
